No more algae in the pool!

Pool algae treatment - how to get rid of algae in pool - Sima Pools and Spas

You are back from vacation and can’t wait to take a refreshing dip in the pool. But wait! It’s green! Don’t panic: algae blooms are a common – and easily remedied – problem. All it takes are a few simple steps to get back to sparkling clear water. Read on!

What causes algae to grow in your pool?

  • Algae blooms where the conditions are ripe. The main causes of algae bloom are:
  • Lack of sanitizer. When you forget to check the chlorine level, especially in hot weather or following heavier use.
  • Unbalanced water. If acidity, hardness, alkalinity and free chlorine are not balanced, the sanitizer won’t work as well.
  • Poor filtration. Check if you need to backwash, if the sand and cartridge need to be cleaned or changed, and if your filtration system is operating for the required number of hours.
  • Poor water circulation. This should be directed away from your skimmer. You should position your water return (jet to the left of your skimmer) at 45 degrees downwards. Make sure that the flow is not blocked, for example, by a staircase installed too close.
  • Solar cover.  Failure to remove it regularly can lead to a lack of oxygen in the water and encourage algae bloom.

How do you treat algae?

The perfect solution to treat algae and quickly solve the problem: Calypso EXACT KIT. Your water will be clear in 48 hours.

Following the treatment, test the water to make sure that it is balanced. Levels must be maintained within a specific range to prevent algae growth. Use an appropriate water analysis kit or visit your Sima dealer for even more accurate analysis and results.

If the parameters are unbalanced, add the appropriate pool chemicals to bring it back on line.

Continue your regular pool maintenance.

4 tips to prevent algae bloom in your pool

  1. Keep your water balanced with the right chemical levels to avoid algae coming back. Test your water regularly and adjust levels when required.
  2. Regularly clean your pool, gently brushing surfaces and removing debris.
  3. Clean or replace filters for optimal water circulation. Backwash when necessary.
  4. Make sure the water circulation in your pool is adequate by adjusting the parameters of your filtration system. Insufficient circulation can encourage algae growth.
